“We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith…” – Hebrews 12:2 (NLT)
The world is filled with challenges, distractions, opinions, and circumstances designed to shift our attention away from our Redeemer and the Word of God. However, one of the most important disciplines in the Christian life is maintaining our focus on the Lord Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit, through the Scriptures, admonishes us to remain steadfast and undistracted.
2nd Timothy 2:8 (NIV) says, “Remember Jesus Christ….Our thoughts, pursuits, decisions, aspirations, and energies must all be centered on Him and His divine purpose for our lives. Hebrews 12:2 provides the example of how to focus; it provided the Lord’s example. Jesus endured because of the joy set before Him. That same joy awaits us, if we can forget distractions and unwholesome noises and reside in Him. In the midst of pain, humiliation, rejection, and shame, He looked beyond the suffering and fixed His gaze on the glorious outcome. He saw the end product – us!
Our Redeemer saw the glory that would come through His obedience, and He stayed focused until He completely fulfilled His mission. This is the mindset we need to have. Refuse to be swayed by the things of the world. Keep our focus on Jesus and the things He’s called us to do. This is worth listening to!
Focus gives direction, endurance, and strength, and resists temptation. Once you fix your eyes on the Lord and your heart is anchored on His Word, you’ll walk in victory. That’s the instruction God gave to Joshua (Joshua 1:8). Success in God’s Kingdom comes from staying in the Word, remaining focused on Him, living in His Word, and His purpose for your life. Keep your focus on Him.
